Stay involved.

Your time and energy can mean a lot to a student who's considering college — and so can what you say. A reassuring conversation before school or a few words of motivation after class can go a long way. Just being available sends an important message, so encourage them to come to you for help whenever they need it. Remind them that you believe in their talents and abilities by suggesting opportunities outside the classroom where they might excel. If a student is struggling in your class or worried about their prospects as college approaches, let them know it's not worth giving up and they can achieve their goals if they're willing to work hard and stick with it.
